SAN DIEGO, Calif. - A late scoring run by junior Cristyn Enea in the 83rd minute would not be enough as the UNLV women's soccer team fell short to Kansas, 4-2, Friday afternoon at the San Diego State Tournament in San Diego, Calif.
The Jayhawks opened the first and second halves with a pair of goals, behind a two-goal outing from Hilla Rantala at the 8:44 and 70:01 minute marks, which would become the match's eventual game-winning goal.
Down 2-0 16-minutes into the game, senior Anita Pedford scored from 25 yards out on a through ball from Enea at 20:22 to inch the Rebels one-goal closer before halftime.
An insurance goal would be made by KU's Natalie Hoogveld in the 77th minute, before Enea's unassisted goal seven minutes prior to the end of regulation.
Kansas improves to 2-1, while UNLV goes to 1-1-1. Meghan Miller had six saves in goal for the Jayhawks, while senior Alice Gleason recorded three for the Rebels.
The UNLV women will next meet South Carolina at the SDSU hosted tournament on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m.
