Oct. 1, 2002

LAS VEGAS - A new basketball marketing campaign has been launched to promote ticket sales for UNLV men's and women's basketball, athletics marketing director Melissa Meacham announced Tuesday.

The campaign has been dubbed "Hoops City, UNLV," and is sponsored by Saturn of Henderson and West Sahara. The premise of the campaign is patterned after a master-planned residential community. Hoops City, UNLV, is a master-planned basketball community. It is a place where people who eat, drink, sleep, walk and talk Rebel basketball can call home.

"This campaign started out as a fun idea and has grown into an invitation to the Las Vegas community to commit to being a part of Runnin' Rebel and Lady Rebel basketball," Meacham said. "We have a great value in season tickets and we are asking people in our community to support the Rebels as the programs continue to grow.

"On behalf of the UNLV Athletics Department, I want to extend a sincere thank you to Saturn of Henderson and West Sahara for showing its Rebel pride and supporting us financially to better promote our basketball programs. I also want to thank UNLV's ESPN Regional office for arranging the sponsorship."

Saturn of Henderson and West Sahara is providing $30,000 to UNLV for the campaign and is allowing the athletics department to tag its local television advertisements with basketball game information. Saturn of Henderson and West Sahara is also providing a car lease for one year to be used in a student attendance incentive program. "We are thrilled about partnering up with UNLV for this campaign," said Michael Curtis, marketing director for Saturn of Henderson and West Sahara and a former Runnin' Rebel. "We believe that we are helping to build championship crowds at both UNLV men's and women's basketball games."
