Runnin' Rebels Suffer 89-61 Home Loss To New Mexico

Naas Cunningham and Issac Williamson each scored nine points Tuesday night for UNLV.

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball team (10-10, 5-4) lost 89-61 to New Mexico on Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center. 

The Lobos (17-4, 8-2) were led by Tomislav Buljan's double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Hall added 16 points, while Uriah Tenette contributed 15.

Naas Cunningham and Issac Williamson each scored nine points for the Runnin' Rebels. Tyrin Jones left the game less than two minutes in with an injury and did not return.

STAT OF THE GAME: New Mexico shot 51.7% from the field in the first half, while UNLV made just 29.6%. The Lobos led 41-22 at the break.

QUOTABLE: "Credit to New Mexico. Bottom line, we got our butts kicked. We went 0-2 in this homestand, and that's unacceptable. They had a hit-first mentality, and we had a soft-first mentality. We've got to be better. We have a quick turnaround, in 72 hours we play at Nevada. I told our guys, your toughness will be tested to see how you respond Friday night." - UNLV head coach Josh Pastner

OTHER NOTES: 
- After winning five straight home games, UNLV has dropped its last two.
- UNLV committed 11 first-half turnovers and missed all six 3-pointers it attempted in the first 20 minutes of the game.
- New Mexico outrebounded UNLV 41-31 and led in points in the paint 44-34.
- New Mexico led by as many as 38 with 4:39 left in the game.
- The Lobos recorded 21 assists on 33 made field goals, while UNLV had 13 assists on 22 baskets.
- Howie Fleming Jr. scored seven points with a team-leading six rebounds and five assists.
- Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn saw his 15-game double-figure scoring streak come to an end as he scored eight. He also had a game-high three steals.
- Buljan shot 8 of 13 from the field, including 2 of 3 on 3-pointers, while Hall was 7 of 11 shooting, and Tenette was 4 of 5.
- New Mexico outshot UNLV 50.8% to 37.3% for the game.
- UNLV has made at least one 3-pointer in a NCAA-record 1,280 straight games.

NEXT FOR THE RUNNIN' REBELS: UNLV will head back out on the road and play at UNR on Friday, Jan. 30. The 7 p.m. game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network.
