SAN DIEGO - Five UNLV players will open in the main draw of the 2002 Omni Hotel West Region Women's Tennis Championships Friday.

The event, hosted jointly by San Diego State and the University of San Diego, will run through Monday. The singles finalists and doubles champion earn spots in the November 7-10 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas.

Lady Rebel sophomore Gyorgyi Zsiros, ranked 76th nationally, will be joined by senior Paulina Janus, ranked 79th, junior Agnieszka Abram, and sophomores Tracie Chong and Leentjie Oosthuizen. UNLV will also field two doubles teams - Abram and Janus and Zsiros and Oohsthuizen.

UNLV's sixth entry, senior Amy Hadziosmanovic, lost in the first round of qualifying Thursday, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5, to Olga Yepremian of Cal State Northridge.
