SAN DIEGO, Calif. - No. 79 ranked Paulina Janus advanced to the third round of the 2002 Omni Hotel West Region Women's Tennis Championships Friday with a pair of victories. Janus opened play with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Plina Kravets of Hawaii. She followed with a 6-0, 7-5 win over Katalina Romero of San Diego State.

No. 76 ranked Gyorgyi Zsiros defeated Arizona's Kellie Perry 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 before falling toUCLA's Jackie Carleton 6-0, 6-2.

Agnieszka Abram fell to USC's Anita Loyola 7-5, 6-2. Leentjie Oosthuizen lost to Pepperdine's Charlotte Vernaz 7-5, 6-4 and Tracie Chong fell to Ruya Inapulat of CSUF 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, the team of Abram and Janus fell to UCSB's Khan and Damion 9-7. Zsiros and Oosthizen are down 7-4 to UCR's team of Beyronneau and Cross. Play was suspended due to inclement weather and will resume on Saturday at 9 a.m.
