LAS VEGAS - Both the UNLV men's and women's golf teams closed outstanding fall seasons and earned their highest ranking of the year in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index.
In the magazine's latest rankings, released on Monday, the Rebel men's squad held down the No. 2 slot behind Clemson and the women's team checked in at No. 32, its highest showing in the program's two-year history.
The men closed their fall slate with a victory at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate and finished no worse than fourth in four competitions. Individually, four Rebels crowded into the top 90. Ryan Moore ranked 12th, JC Deacon ranked 50th, Brien Davis ranked 89th and freshman Mitch Carlson climbed to 90th.
The UNLV women were rewarded for a second-place finish at the Las Vegas Showdown, leaping nine spots in the computerized rankings.
"My goal at the beginning of the season was to get us into the top 30 by the end of the fall, so I feel great that we have essentially achieved that with such a young team," women's golf head coach Missy Ringler said.
Individually on the women's side, freshman phenom Sunny Oh charged to 50th on the heels of her runner-up finish at the Showdown, and sophomore Hwanhee Lee checked in at 97th.
