KAHUKU, Hawaii - Four UNLV golfers are in the top 20, two are tied for second, and the team sits atop the leaderboard after two rounds of play at the Turtle Bay Intercollegiate on Monday.

Following a par team round in the morning with an eight-under 280 in the nightcap, the Rebels were just one of two teams to finish under par for the day. The other, Tennessee, dropped a nine-stroke lead after the first 18 and sits five shots behind UNLV.

Individually, Ryan Moore and JC Deacon are in contention. Both trail only Tennessee's David Skinns by three strokes heading into Tuesday's final round. Moore was the only of the 98 players to finish both of Monday's rounds under par, besting his early 71 with a two-under 70 in the afternoon.

Deacon carded an impressive 69 in the morning, followed by a steady 72.

Both Rebels are tied with San Francisco's Robert Frye for second place.

Three strokes behind his teammates is Rebel freshman Mitch Carlson, who covered all 36 holes in perfect par. He is tied for sixth.

Brien Davis crowded into the top 20 also, sitting in a tie for 13th at two-over. Davis rescued a horrendous morning round of 80, trimming 14 strokes off his score to card a six-under 66, the only afternoon round in the tournament under 70.

Travis Whisman sits close behind on the leaderboard, tied for 26th after rounds of 76 and 72.

Final-round play at The Links At Kuilima begins with an 8:00 a.m. HST shotgun start.
