WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - The UNLV men's golf team fired even par as a team on Thursday in the second round of the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate and sit in 13th place heading into the final round at the Kings' Golf Course.
UNLV (297-288--585) rebounded from a nine-over par effort in the first round of the tourney behind some improved play from the back of the lineup.
Freshman Ryan Moore found his game after carding an opening-round 76, shooting a two-under 70 on Thursday to move into a tie for 36th place overall.
While Moore was the low scorer for the day, UNLV is still led by senior Clark Corbett in the tourney. Corbett's two-round total of 144 has him tied for 21st overall. He followed Wednesday's 71 with a one-over 73.
Also making a big stride after the first round was junior Brien Davis, who rebounded from a 76 of his own to card a one-under 71. At three-over for the tournament, Davis is tied for 46th.
Sophomore Brandon Askew turned in a second consecutive round of 74 to round out UNLV's team scoring while junior Calvin Kupeyan's 75 was thrown out.
Stanford's Philip Rowe has a one-stroke advantage in the overall individual race while Georgia Tech is seven shots ahead of the Yellow Jacket team and 19 strokes in front of the Rebels.
Friday's final round at the Kings' Course will begin at 7:30 a.m. HT.
