AUSTIN, Texas - The UNLV men's golf team bounced back from a couple of rough rounds on Monday to blister the Austin Country Club course with a final-round 296 to climb to 13th place at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
The Rebels (314-310-296-920) finished 56-over par to leap past North Florida (297-315-309-921) and Texas A&M (318-304-310-932), but finish 37 strokes behind host and champion Texas (294-295-294-883).
The Longhorns were led to victory by John Klauk (70-71-69-210), who finished six strokes under par despite the harsh weather during both days of play.
Klauk finished 11 strokes in front of UNLV freshman Ryan Moore (75-71-75-221), who led the Rebels.
Freshman J.C. Deacon (81-81-70-232) rebounded from back-to-back 81s on the first day of play to fire a career-best 70 and finish 52nd overall.
Brien Davis (81-81-73-235) also fired a pair of 81s before trimming his round to a respectable 73. He edged teammate Clark Corbett (77-82-78-237) by two strokes to finish 59th. Corbett was 63rd.
Brandon Askew (81-77-81-239) rounded out the Rebel lineup, tying for 70th.
The Rebels next head to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to compete in the U.S. Collegiate Championships on April 5-7.
