STORYLINE: In what has become an annual favorite for the UNLV men's golf team, the U.S. Collegiate Championships stop in Tucson, Ariz., this year on Friday, April 5 through Sunday, April 7. The 54-hole competition will play 18 holes each day at the Tucson National Golf Club (Par 72--7,094 Yards).
ABOUT UNLV: Poor weather, rain and heavy winds blew the Rebels to the back of the pack at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate in Austin, Texas on March 25-26. UNLV finished 13th among the 15-team field, and only Ryan Moore's top-10 finish was worthy of recognition. That came after a second-place team finish at home in the Las Vegas Collegiate. Both Ryan Moore and Brett Foulds finished in the top five individually, and senior Clark Corbett tied for 12th overall.
THE FIELD: The U.S. Collegiate Championships feature a feared field of 10, headlined by top-ranked Georgia Tech. Arizona hosts: Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Kent State, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas and UNLV.
THE LINEUP: UNLV's lineup for the Las Vegas Collegiate will be Brandon Askew, Clark Corbett, J.C. Deacon, Brien Davis and Ryan Moore.
THE U.S. COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS: Last season, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Scott Lander shot a final-round 69 to climb into a tie for fourth place individually and lead the Rebels to a seventh-place team finish. That was two positions better than the team's ninth-place showing in 2000 at Los Cabos, Mexico.
HEAD COACH DWAINE KNIGHT: UNLV men's golf head coach Dwaine Knight is in his 15th season as the Rebels' skipper. During his tenure, UNLV has been a perennial power with five league championships, 12 NCAA Championship appearances, and the 1998 national title. The only coach in the country to twice claim GCAA National Coach of the Year honors in the 1990s (1991 and 1998), Knight has produced 15 All-Americans and sent four players to the PGA Tour (Jeremy Anderson, Chad Campbell, Ed Fryatt, Chris Riley).
