LAS VEGAS - Both UNLV tennis programs earned national academic awards, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Thursday.
The women's squad was named an ITA Academic All-American Team for the sixth time in the last seven years. The honor is earned by any program that has a collective grade point average of 3.20 or above. The seven Lady Rebel netters this year combined to post a stunning 3.47 (ranging from a 3.05 to a 3.92).
On the men's side, two Rebels earned individual classroom kudos. 2002 senior All-American Thomas Schneiter and junior Leslie Eisinga were both tabbed ITA Scholar-Athlete All-Americans. To earn such standing, a player must be a junior or senior, earn a varsity letter and hold a career GPA of at least 3.50. This marked the fifth consecutive season at least one men's player earned the honor.
