Janus Advances to Finals Of UNLV Women's Tennis Invite

LAS VEGAS - UNLV's Paulina Janus won a pair of matches on Saturday to advance to the finals of the UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Janus, who ranks No. 79 in the nation, defeated Mississippi's Virginia Tomatis 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to begin the day and followed it up with a 6-3, 3-0 (retired) victory over San Diego's Catherine Heppell.

Janus will face Mississippi's Mira Radu on Sunday. Ranked No. 17 in the nation, Radu is the highest ranked player in the tournament. Radu opened play on Saturday with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over UNLV's Tracie Chong.

UNLV's Amy Hadziosmanovic advanced to the third round with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over unattached Katie Schurr, but fell later in the day to USD's Lauren Kazarian 6-1, 6-2.

In doubles action, the Rebel team of Gyorgyi Zsiros and Leentjie Oosthuizen advanced into the third round with an 8-4 win over the unattached team of Karen Kmiec and Kirsten Balk, but lost later in the day to Mississippi's Karen Harboe and Florencia Basile 8-6.

Agnieszka Abram and Janus defeated Oklahoma State's Linda Faltynkova and Katia Kolodynska 8-5, but dropped a 9-7 match to USD's Lauren Zazarian and Brown later in the day.

Jackie White and Amy Hadziosmanovic dropped their second round match to the unattached team of Schmadt and Klompmaker 8-5.

Sunday's play begins at 9 a.m. at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV campus.
