SALT LAKE CITY - The UNLV women's volleyball team's hopes for a third-straight conference victory were dash by Utah who defeated the Rebels 3-1 (30-27, 27-30, 16-30, 21-30) on Friday night at the Crimson Court on the Utah campus.
UNLV struggled offensively and was out-hit .061 (45-35-163) to .240 (66-29-154) in the match.
With the loss, the Rebels fall to 8-9 on the season, 2-4 in Mountain West Conference play, while the Utes improve to 11-6, 5-1 in league play.
Patricia Assuncao and Leiana Oswald finished the match with 15 kills each. Oswald also tallied nine digs and vie block assists, while Assuncao added four digs and three blocks.
Sheila Ocasio-Clemente put up eight blocks (one solo and seven assisted), while Christina Kirschner finished the match with five blocks (one solo, four assisted).
Michelle Banks led the Rebels with 12 digs, but managed only five kills in 24 attempts with eight errors.
Nicki King finished with 35 assists and six digs, while Nina Franchini had 10 digs at the libero spot.
Tarin Keith, who has been responsible for a bulk of the Rebels offense this season, played one game with no kills on two attempts.
UNLV continues its weekend journey through Utah with a Saturday match-up with BYU. The Cougars won a five-game match over San Diego State on Friday.
