Arbelaez, Dyachenko Lift UNLV Over New Mexico 2-0

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UNLV scored once in each half to claim a 2-0 victory over New Mexico in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation season opener for both teams on Saturday night in men's collegiate soccer from Albuquerque, N.M.. With the win, the Rebels broke a three-game losing streak to move to 4-8 overall, 1-0 in the conference, while New Mexico fell to 3-7-3, and 0-1 with their fourth straight loss.

Victor Arbelaez began the scoring for UNLV when he took a cross from Alex Hernandez on the left wing, and fired from the top of the box for a 1-0 lead at 22:52. Rod Dyachenko then added the Rebels' second goal in the second half, when he took a feed from Hernandez in the upper left corner of the box and sailed the ball over junior goalkeeper Andrew Weber for the 2-0 lead at the 57:59 mark.

Peter Clitheroe posted four saves in goal for UNLV while collecting the shutout. Weber finished with eight saves while allowing two goals.

UNLV returns home to host MPSF rival San Diego State on Monday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. at Peter Johann Field. The game is designated at "Break the Record Attendance" night, where the Rebels hope to break the previous record attendance of 1,200, set in 1994 against UCLA.
