ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The UNLV men's golf team sits in second place after the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm Golf Club on Friday.

The Rebels shot 294 as a team, six-over par and five strokes behind team leader Clemson. They have just a slight one-stroke lead over Florida and Texas and six teams sit within four strokes of UNLV.

Individually, Clemson's Matt Hendrix was the only player to break 70 and leads the field by a stroke after an opening-round 69.

Travis Whisman was the closest Rebel to Hendrix. Whisman was tied for 10th after an even-par round of 72.

Following Whisman was sophomore Ryan Keeney with a 73, junior JC Deacon with a 74 and junior Ryan Moore with a 75. Freshman Sam Hunt's 77 was discarded.

The Rebels will begin second-round play at the par-72, 7,010-yard Farm Course at 8:00 a.m. PDT.
