LAS VEGAS - The undefeated UNLV women's team moved up two spots to No. 15 in the season's third edition of the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings, which were released by the national governing body Wednesday.
The Lady Rebels reached the top 15 for only the third time in school history along with a climb to a school-record-high No. 14 in 1994 and a one week stay at No. 15 beginning on March 24 of last year.
The defending Mountain West Conference champions are currently 2-0 but will face their toughest test of the young season this week by traveling to Fresno State for a Saturday match vs. the 23rd-ranked Bulldogs.
The next-highest ranked team from the MWC is No. 25 San Diego State, which plays at UNLV on March 28. Two of the teams currently in the top five will take on the Lady Rebels in Las Vegas this spring: Top-ranked and defending national champion Stanford visits March 25 while No. 4 Duke makes its first-ever trip to campus March 12.
The Rebel men's team was not ranked. The next edition of the singles and doubles rankings will not be released until February 26.
