AUSTIN, Texas - The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 285 and cruised to an easy third-place finish at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Tuesday.
UNLV scored six-under par for the tournament at the par-72, 6,906-yard Austin Country Club and finished 16 shots behind Oklahoma State, who edged host Texas for the team title at 22-under.
The Cowboys also boasted the individual winner as Hunter Mahan shot a final-round 65 to win the event with a 14-under par score.
Leading the way for the Rebels were sophomores Travis Whisman and Ryan Moore, who both finished in the top 10. Whisman finished alone in ninth place at five-under and Moore tied for 10th, one stroke behind.
Rounding out the Rebels' scorecard for Tuesday were Brien Davis, who shot 72 for the day and finished in 48th place at six-over, and Mitch Carlson, who carded 73 to finish in 63rd at 10-over.
JC Deacon, who ranked among the tourney's leaders after the first two rounds, slipped to 43rd after a final-round 78.
With the third-place finish, UNLV keeps its streak in tact of finishing at least fourth or higher at every tournament this season.
The Rebels return to action on March 30 when they play at the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Tucson, Ariz.
