LIHUE, Hawaii (UNLVRebels.com) – Behind four par-or-better scorecards, the UNLV men's golf team moved into third after tying the low team score in Friday's second round with a 6-under 274 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate being hosted by Hawai'i at the Ocean Course at Hokuala (Par 70, 7,098 yards).
SECOND-ROUND SURGE: Junior
Mason Snyder spearheaded the Rebels' current season-low to-par round with his 3-under 68, finishing bogey free on the course's front nine for the second consecutive day. Adding another pair of under-par outings were senior
Wyatt Plattner with a 2-under 68 and junior
Zach Little with a 1-under 69, including his own bogey-free tally on the course's front nine. Junior
Ryan Abuan chimed in with an even-par 70 to round out the scorecard.
REBEL ROUNDUP: The Scarlet & Gray saw three of its players end the day in the top 20 as Snyder jumped into a tie for second at 5-under 135, Little (-1) climbed into a tie for 14th and Plattner (E) boosted 29 spots up into a tie for 17th. Completing the lineup are senior
Trevor Lewis (+4) in a tie for 45th and Abuan (+5) in a tie for 55th alongside senior
Billy Smith, who is competing as an individual.
LEADERBOARD: Only three shots separate the Rebels (-5) and current team leaders Loyola Marymount (8) and Texas A&M (-8) in a tie for first. Snyder, meanwhile, closed in on the individual lead, standing just one shot back of LMU's Nateeshvar Anatha Ganesh in first.
UP NEXT: UNLV tees off in the final round on Saturday at 9 a.m. HT/11 a.m PT.
NOTES:
- In the second round, UNLV went bogey-free on six holes, as the entire lineup plus Smith shot par or better on the Ocean Course at Hokaula's first five holes and the 10th.
- Only one other team, St. Mary's, matched the Scarlet & Gray's 6-under 274 on the day.
