LAS VEGAS - With the results moving this week from a voting format to a computer points system, the UNLV women tumbled 15 spots to No. 33 in the season's eighth edition of the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Rankings, which were released by the national governing body Wednesday.
It marked the first time UNLV did not appear in the nation's top 20 since ranking 27 on March 13, 2002.
The Lady Rebels (8-2) have already defeated two schools ranked ahead of them (No. 29 Texas A&M and No. 32 Oklahoma) and lost to two programs in the top 20 (No. 4 Duke and No. 17 Fresno State). They get back on the courts Thursday with a match at San Diego before opening Mountain West Conference play vs. New Mexico on Friday.
