SAN DIEGO - Playing on the road for the first time since a February 8 loss at Fresno State, the No. 33-ranked UNLV women's tennis team eased by the University of San Diego 4-1 at the Barnes Tennis Center Thursday.
The Lady Rebels improved to 9-2 on the year by taking the match in singles play.
Paulina Janus, fresh off being named Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week, had no trouble with Lauren Perl, 6-0, 6-1, at the top spot. Gyorgyi Zsiros then improved her career dual-match record to a stunning 30-1 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Tara Livesay at No. 2.
Down at the fourth position, Tracie Chong held on to beat Lauren Leo, 7-6, 6-1 while Amy Hadziosmanovic also won in straight sets over Tiana Lum-Tucker at No. 6, 6-2, 6-3. With the match clinched, one remaining singles spot was halted and all doubles action was canceled.
UNLV, the defending MWC champion, opens league play Friday with a neutral-court match vs. No. 52 New Mexico on the campus of San Diego State.
