Air Jinks

March 3, 2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the ninth time of her career, UNLV senior All-America candidate Constance Jinks was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week by the league office Monday.

The 5-foot-7 guard out of Chicago, Ill., scored 29 of her career-high-tying 40 points in the first half alone in an 81-45 blowout of Air Force on March 1. She shot 76 percent from the field (16-21) and knocked down four three-pointers versus the Falcons. Jinks also scored a game-high 20 points in a 68-45 win over league rival New Mexico on Feb. 28 to give UNLV the weekend sweep.

She is the only MWC player to reach 40 points in a single game and she has done so twice this season (vs. Cal Poly on Nov. 27). For the week, Jinks shot 59 percent from the floor (23-39), 54 percent from beyond the arc (7-13) and 88 percent from the charity stripe (7-8), while averaging 30 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.

Jinks is currently the conference's leading scorer (20.8 ppg) and ranks 16th nationally in scoring. She ties former Lady Rebel Linda Fr?hlich (1998-2002) with a league-record nine weekly awards to be handed out during her career.
