SALINAS, Calif. - Consistent play landed a fifth-place finish for the UNLV women's golf team as the Rebels followed yesterday's back-to-back team rounds of 299 with a 300 on Wednesday.
The Rebels ended the tourney at 34-over par and in the mix with some of the top-ranked teams in the country. UNLV finished just eight strokes behind seventh-ranked California and defeated No. 10 Washington by three shots. Fifth-ranked Pepperdine won the event with a blazing 18-under par score.
The Waves also took home individual medalist honors as Katherine Hull finished with an amazing 16-under par score.
UNLV sophomore Hwanhee Lee and freshman Sunny Oh finished some 23 strokes behind Hull, but both managed top-20 finishes. The duo tied for 14th place overall and threw rounds of 74 and 75 respectively into the Rebels' final round total.
Freshman Elena Kurokawa also added a 74 to the total and climbed into 32nd place at 14-over. Christine Hentzner's 77 rounded out the team score and lifted her into 40th place at 17-over. Tina Mabanta's 80 was discarded and placed her in a tie for 35th at 16-over.
The Rebels will enjoy three weeks of practice and rest before returning to the road to compete in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, from March 24-26.
