BOULDER CITY (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV women's golf team sits atop the team leaderboard while junior
Zi Yu Foong and sophomore
Amber Chen are tied for the individual lead after Monday's opening two rounds of the Jackrabbits Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club (Par 72, 6,343 yards).
REBEL ROUNDUP: Foong and Chen each shot 5-under through 36 holes to lead the Rebels to the day's only under-par team scorecard at 8-under 568. The duo paved the way for the Scarlet & Gray's 7-under 281 in the second round as Chen carded a 4-under 68 and Foong added a 3-under 69.
Giving the Scarlet & Gray lineup four individuals in the top 10, freshmen
Lana Yamagata (+1) and
Demi Du (+1) positioned themselves in a tie for eighth. Their highlights included Yamagata's first-round 1-under 71 and Du's second-round even-par 72. Also representing the Rebels, junior
Jane Huang (+5) is tied for 25th.
Headlining the Rebels' group playing as individuals, sophomore
Caitlin Shippam (73-71) ended the day in sixth after breaking even with a second-round 1-under 71. Following her on that list are freshman
Yen Liu (+3) in 16th, freshman
Almina Erdogan (+4) in a tie for 18th after also shooting a 1-under 71 in the first round and junior
Leonie Krausse (+13) in a tie for 47th.
DAY-ONE LEADERBOARD: UNLV holds a nine-shot advantage over Morehead State (+1) in second place. Morehead State's Amelia Greenlee joins Foong and Chen with a three-shot advantage atop the individual standings.
PAR-5 PAYOFF: All five of the Rebels' main players posted a birdie or better on the tournament's par-5 No. 2 and No.13 holes in the second round. Together, they combined to shoot 11-under on those two holes, including nine birdies and an eagle by Huang on 13. Additionally, the Scarlet & Gray's four players competing solely as individuals shot par or better on the second hole, notching three birdies.
