LAS VEGAS - Andy Hannan, a 6-foot-6 swingman from Minneapolis Community and Technical College, has signed a national letter of intent to enroll at UNLV and play basketball for the Runnin' Rebels next season, head coach Charlie Spoonhour announced Sunday.
Hannan, who will enroll at UNLV as a junior, led his team to a 25-3 overall record in 2002-03 and a perfect 12-0 conference mark in the Minneapolis Community College Conference's Southern Division. MCTC finished second in the state playoffs and earned a berth in the regional tournament.
Hannan led his team last season in scoring (20.5 ppg), rebounding (7.2 rpg), steals (2.4 spg) and was second in assists (4.3 apg). He shot 51.8 percent from the field (213-of-411), 37.8 percent from 3-point range (37-of-98) and 78.9 percent from the free throw line (112-of-142). Hannan was a NJCAA first team All-America for Division 3, earned all-state honors and was selected to the MCCC All-Tournament team.
"We are very happy to have Andy join us here at UNLV," Spoonhour said. "He is a very talented offensive player and he will provide us with some much-needed scoring next season. He has the ability to play multiple positions on the perimeter and along with his scoring, he has a good knowledge of the game. He is also very team-oriented as evidenced by his assists."
Hannan played his freshman year at Binghamton University, a NCAA Division I school in New York, and attended high school at Holy Angels HS in Minneapolis. At Binghamton, he averaged 7.3 ppg and 2.8 rpg in 21.6 minutes per game.
Hannan is the first singing of the spring period for UNLV. He joins Chris Adams, a 6-10 center from City College of San Francisco, Michael Umeh, a 6-2 point guard from Hightower High School in Missouri City, Texas, and John Winston, a 6-3 guard from Hercules (Calif.) High School, who all signed with the Runnin' Rebels last fall.
