April 7, 2003

LAS VEGAS - UNLV men's basketball senior guard Marcus Banks has earned honorable mention for the 2003 Associated Press All-America team, announced last week by the AP.

In March, Banks was named District VIII Player of the Year by the United States Basketball Writers Association and was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection. He was also named the MWC's co-Defensive Player of the Year.

Banks led the MWC in assists (5.5 apg) and steals (2.8 spg) and was second in scoring this season with 20.3 ppg. He posted six 30-plus scoring games during the 2002-03 season and scored 20 or more points in a game 17 times.

Banks was also selected as one of 15 finalists for the Oscar Robertson Trophy (the USBWA's Player of the Year) and was named to the NABC All-District 15 first team. Banks was the only player in the MWC to win the Player of the Week award three times this season.

Banks is the first UNLV player to earn AP All-America honors since Mark Dickel was named honorable mention in 2000.
