LAS VEGAS - Nevada, Reno announced Thursday that it is installing lights at its football stadium in time for this season, which means the annual Battle For the Fremont Cannon will be waged at night for the first time in the northern part of the state.
The Saturday, October 4 game between UNLV and UNR will kick off at 7:05 p.m. PT at Mackay Stadium.
The Wolf Pack leads the all-time series 15-13 but the Rebels have won the last three.
UNR announced that the addition of lights is intended to help the athletics department position itself to gain television revenue and media exposure.
"We are hopeful that this addition to our stadium will be a catalyst for increasing our attendance and, most notably, give us the opportunity to be considered for regional and national television appearances," UNR director of athletics Chris Ault said in a release from the school.
The Pack will play its first three home games this year under the lights, including August 30 against Southern Utah and September 27 vs. SMU.
