Rebels Close Out Regular Season At Oxy Invitational

LOS ANGELES - Less than a week away from its postseason conference meet, the UNLV women's track and field team closed out the outdoor regular season with career and season best performances at the 2003 Oxy Invitational held Saturday at Occidental College.

Leading the way for the Rebels was senior Tianika Sharrieff (Euless, Texas), who tied Azusa Pacific's Mireya Beltran for third-place in the high jump with a season best leap of 5-07.00.

In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Miesha McClendon (Pasadena, Calif.) tied her career and season best in the event with a fifth-place time of 14.40 seconds. She also placed seventh in the 100 meters (12.41).

Junior thrower Andrea Azzara (Incline Village, Nev.) finished 22nd in the hammer throw with a career and season best toss of 125-07.00 and 18th in the discus with a distance of 115-00.00, while freshman Angie Turner (Las Vegas) placed 21st with a mark of 132-00.00 in the hammer.

The Rebels will next participate in the 2003 Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 14-17 in Albuquerque, N.M.
