LAS VEGAS - Led by preseason Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year selection Jamaal Brimmer, nine different Rebels have earned spots on all-league teams according to various preview magazines this summer.

Brimmer, who was last year's defensive MVP, was a unanimous first-team choice among The Sporting News, Athlon, Lindy's, Phil Steele's, Street & Smith's and College Football News. The Las Vegas native, who will be a junior at safety this fall, was also named second team All-America by Athlon, CFN and Phil Steele's, which ranked Brimmer as the No. 2 strong safety in college football behind only Maurice Sikes of Miami.

Two other Rebels were unanimous first team All-MWC choices: junior linebacker Adam Seward and junior wide receiver Earvin Johnson. Also getting at least one first-team nod - both by Phil Steele's -- were defensive lineman Dietrich Canterberry and end Chris Eagen.

Junior tailback Larry Croom, who finished off 2002 by coming off the bench to roll up a spectacular 222-yard rushing day in a win at Colorado State, was a second-team selection by Athlon, Lindy's and Phil Steele's.

The other UNLV players to make a preseason team were kick-returner Dominique Dorsey, guard Marcus Johnson and junior-college transfer linebacker John Andrews.
