HOT SPRINGS, Va. - Behind a six-under 64 from junior All-American Ryan Moore, the UNLV men's golf team leapt six spots into a tie for seventh after the final round of The Preview by PING and Golfweek on Tuesday.

Moore, of Puyallup, Wash., fell just one stroke short of the school-record 63 carded by Jeremy Anderson at the 1998 Savane College All-America, but became the fifth Rebel to sign a scorecard of 64. The Rebels' ace carded the best round of the tournament at the par-70, 6,679-yard Cascades Course at Hot Springs Resort.

Starting on the No. 10 tee, Moore was two-under when he reached the par-5 16th. He carded an eagle on the hole and birdied the last two holes on the side for an impressive 29.

Conditions and scores were improved throughout the course on Tuesday after rain and poor weather forced the cancellation of the tournament's second round on Monday. In sunny, yet breezy conditions, the Rebels shaved 26 strokes off their first-round total to match the second-best team score of the day, a two-under par 278. That allowed UNLV to overcome its sour start on Monday and move into a tie for seventh place with Wake Forest and North Carolina at 22-over par.

All three teams sat 10 strokes behind UCLA, which claimed a one-stroke victory over Georgia Tech. The Bruins' John Poucher led the way, collecting medallist honors after finishing two-under par.

For the Rebels, a one-under 69 from Ryan Keeney, a two-over 72 from Andres Gonzales, and a three-over 73 from JC Deacon combined with Moore's 64 for the team's 278 total. Travis Whisman's 75 was discarded.

Moore climbed from 30th to fifth on the leaderboard after his stellar round dropped his total to one-over. Keeney also made a big leap, hopping from 52nd place on Monday to a tie for 28th overall.

The Rebels head out again in 10 days when they compete at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga., on Oct. 3-5.
