LAS VEGAS - In a tight and thrilling game, Cal State Northridge's Jesse Servin scored with just 52 seconds left in the second half to lift the Matadors to a 2-1 victory over UNLV in men's collegiate soccer on Friday night from Peter Johann Field. The Rebels, who had tied the game just six minutes earlier and looked on the way to their second straight overtime contest, instead fell to 3-6 on the year, while CSUN remained undefeated on the season at 4-0-2. The game was part of the UNLV/Fila Classic, and in the day's first game, Gonzaga (4-3-1) and New Mexico (3-3-3) played to a 1-1 double overtime tie.

The first half was marked by defense, as the teams combined for a total of seven shots. The Matadors took a 1-0 lead when defender Edwin Miranda rocketed a shot from 35 yards out that just beat UNLV goalkeeper Peter Clitheroe to the right post at the 28:46 mark.

The Rebels stepped up their effort on the offensive side in the second half, and finally found the back of the net at the 83:18 mark. Victor Arbelaez drew a foul, giving UNLV a free kick from 25 yards out. Senior midfielder Alex Hernandez's curving shot to the right side of the goal tied the match at 1-1. With the game looking set to go into overtime, Servin broke away from the Rebel defense, took a pass from Miranda at the top of the box and sent a shot past Clitheroe to the left post for the 2-1 victory at the 89:08 mark.

In the day's first game, Gonzaga and New Mexico played to a scoreless first half. The Lobos got on the scoreboard first on Eriksen Stian's goal at 51:43, on an assist from Patrick Grange. Gonzaga then tied the match at 1-1 when Arni Pjeturrson penetrated into the box and passed back out to Kari Arnason, who sent a shot to the right post at 75:25. Despite outshooting Gonzaga 26-13 for the game, including 3-1 in overtime, New Mexico couldn't score another goal, and the game ended in a 1-1 double-overtime tie.

The UNLV/Fila Classic resumes on Sunday, as UNLV faces Gonzaga at Noon, and New Mexico taking on Cal State Northridge at 2 p.m., with both games being played at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
