LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team plays in its final in-season tournament of the season this weekend, as the Rebels will meet Arizona and Montana in the Montana Diadora Cup in Missoula, Mont..
UNLV (5-3-1) is coming off back-to-back shutouts, and hopes to see its defense stay strong in this weekend's action.
The Rebels open against Arizona on Saturday at 3 p.m.. UNLV, who is 0-1 all-time against the Wildcats, is led by junior midfielder Annii Magliulo, who is first in the Mountain West Conference in goals (seven) and points (15). Senior Erin Egertson and Rachael Buscovich both have two goals on the year for UNLV.
Arizona, who is 4-3 and riding a three-game win streak. Including in the streak is a 2-1 win at Northern Arizona, who tied UNLV 0-0 on Sept. 21 in Las Vegas. Candice Wilks leads the team with four goals for eight points, while Mallory Miller and Erin Bevacqua both have posted three scores on the season.
Montana is 2-5-1 on the year, but last weekend the Grizzlies upset Mountain West member and 21st-ranked BYU 1-0 in Provo, Utah. Montana also played conference member Utah on Sunday, falling 2-1 in Salt Lake City. The Grizzlies have struggled scoring this year, having been shutout three times in eight games. Of the team's six goals on the season, Jamie Rizzuto has three while Lindsay Winans has found the back of the net twice for the team.
