UNLV improved on its win total by one game for the second straight year and reached bowl eligibility for only the fourth time in the last 17 seasons ... The Rebels, who rose to as high as 30th in the coaches' poll, played a school-record-tying six bowl teams in 2003 for the second straight season and came away with 3-3 mark ... With a 4-2 away record, UNLV earned its most road victories since ending 5-1 in 1984 ... The Rebels' sparkling 4-1 non-conference record, which included three bowl teams, marked the most-ever victories outside of the league since the program first joined a conference in 1982 ... The Rebels opened the season on national television for the third consecutive season, defeating Toledo on a Friday night game ... With a 2-1 record on SportsWest TV in 2003, UNLV is now 11-5 in games shown by the regional broadcaster and just 15-28 in all others since the MWC formed ... UNLV's 12 opponents in 2003 -- of which only two had losing records -- boasted a combined mark of 80-64 ... UNLV led the MWC with 35 takeaways, ranking first in interceptions gained (16) and second in fumbles recovered (19) ... Rebel players won conference player of the week a school-record eight times ... UNLV has now downed a ranked opponent (No. 14 Wisconsin) in two straight seasons after having only defeated a ranked team once before John Robinson took over the program ... The Rebels won their last regular-season game for the fourth consecutive season (all on the road) after previously losing seven straight finales ... Senior RB Larry Croom became the first Rebel in history to play in three postseason all-star games and scored at least one touchdown in each ... Croom scored two touchdowns in the East-West Shrine Game, where he was joined by Robinson and assistants Bruce Snyder and Mike Bradeson, who oversaw the West Team.
