PROVO, Utah - For the second consecutive match the UNLV women's volleyball team couldn't get on track offensively as BYU's defense propelled the Cougars to a 3-1 win Saturday night at Smith Fieldhouse in Provo, Utah.
The Rebels dropped to 8-7 on the year, 2-3 in the Mountain West Conference while BYU improved to 10-6 overall, 4-1 in the MWC.
BYU controlled the net defensively, blocking 18 balls and forcing UNLV into 38 hitting errors. UNLV hit below .100 for the second straight evening, as the Rebels finished the match with a .040 hitting percentage, their lowest of the season. In the Rebels' 3-1 loss to Utah the night before, UNLV hit .073.
The Cougars won the first two games of the match, 30-25 and 30-23 and hit above .300 in both wins. UNLV rebounded in the third game, winning 30-23 despite hitting .000. The Rebels' defense held BYU to the same hitting percentage to win their only game of the match. BYU erased any thoughts of a comeback by UNLV, winning the fourth and decisive game 30-21.
Brittani Lumsden led the Rebels with 13 kills, but the freshman outside hitter also committed 12 errors in 35 attempts. Maria Aladjova also reached double-figures in kills with 11 and senior setter Nicki King had 36 assists.

Hartsock committed just two errors in 23 attempts. Lindsey Metcalf joined Hartsock in double-figures with 11 kills. Lauren Richards had 48 assists for the Cougars.
