PALO ALTO, Calif. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a tournament-low 8-under-par 268 on Saturday during the Nelson Invitational's second round at the par 69, 6,444-yard Stanford Golf Course and moved into second place after two rounds of competition.
New Mexico (277-269--546, -6), which began the day in second place, moved into first place after shooting 7-under 269 on Saturday. The Lobos sit one shot in front of UNLV (279-268--547, -5) heading into the final round. Georgia State (275-279--554, +2) was the first-round leader and is now in third place, eight shots back.
UNLV received strong second-round scores from Travis Whisman (71-64--135) and Jarred Texter (70-65--135), who shot 5-under 64 and 4-under 65, respectively. The two Rebels are tied for third place individually with New Mexico's Jay Reynolds (68-67--135) at 3-under for the tournament. New Mexico's Spencer Levin (65-65--130) is the individual leader at 8-under and is followed by Georgia State's Steve Tiley (67-67--134, -4), four shots back.
UNLV's Ryan Moore (67-70--137, -1) shot a 1-over 70 on Saturday and is tied for sixth place, seven shots off the lead.
Other Rebel competitors are: Sam Hunt (T19; 72-69--141, +3) and Matt Kinsinger (T25; 71-71--142, +4).
The tournament concludes Sunday with 18 holes.
