Netters Net Two Recruits

Dec. 2, 2004

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UNLV volleyball has received signed national letters of intent from two student-athletes who will join the Rebel volleyball team next fall, head coach Allison Keeley announced Thursday.

Jennifer Johnson and Erin Greenwood are the pair that have signed with UNLV during the early signing period and will start competing during the 2005 season.

Johnson is an outside/middle hitter from Sandy, Utah, who just wrapped up her prep career at Cottonwood High School as the school's career record holder for blocks with 325. Johnson was a first-team all-state selection this past season, when she knocked down 383 kills and had 160 solo blocks in leading her team to the Region Three title. It was the third region title in a row for Cottonwood and Johnson was named the region's MVP, the second time that she had won the award. Johnson ended her high school career with 1,083 kills to go along with her 325 blocks. She had 10 or more solo blocks in a match 10 times while at Cottonwood.

"Jennifer is a powerful offensive player who is versatile in all positions across the net," Keeley said. "She is a tough competitor with a high level of experience and she will compete well with our more experienced core of hitters."

Greenwood, who attends Edmonds Woodway High School in Woodway, Wash., is a 6-foot-4 middle and will add height at the net for the Rebels. During her senior season, Greenwood had 191 kills and a .341 hitting percentage. She also added 45 blocks on her way to earning All-Wesco honors. Greenwood was Edmonds' team captain this past season and is the school's record holder for hitting percentage in a match, hitting percentage in a season and hitting percentage in a career.

"Erin brings the added dimension of size to our program," Keeley said. "She is a big blocker who can be a presence both in the middle and on the right side of the net."
