Run In The Sun

Dec. 9, 2004

LAS VEGAS - UNLV tailback Dominique Dorsey will get to show off his talents on national television once again after agreeing to play in The Villages Gridiron Classic.

The seventh annual edition of the college football all-star game will take place just north of Orlando in The Villages, Fla., on Saturday, Jan. 15 and be shown live on ESPN2 at 8 a.m. PT.

Head coaches for the game will be Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer, who will oversee the South Team, and Ohio State's Jim Tressel, who will handle duties for the North.

Dorsey, who will not know which team he will run for until next month, completed his career as UNLV's second-leading rusher of all time with 2,833 yards, which is the most since the school moved to Division One in 1978.

In 2004, he earned first team All-Mountain West Conference honors by leading the league and ranking 15th nationally with 1,260 yards and six touchdowns. Against UNLV's school-record three ranked opponents this fall, he ran for a combined 357 yards, including 121 on just 18 carries at then-No. 14 Tennessee in the season opener. Dorsey's six 100-yard games as a senior gave the native of Tulare, Calif., 11 in his career, which only included 14 starts for the Rebels.

Dorsey is the third Rebel to be chosen for the Gridiron Classic and the first who was not a native of the Sunshine State. Former running back Jeremi Rudolph played in the 2000 game while defensive lineman Ahmad Miller competed one year later.
