LAS VEGAS - Tulane did not lose a set in singles play en route to shutting out host UNLV 7-0 and advancing to the championship of the third annual UNLV Women's Tennis Spring Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Saturday.
The 27th-ranked Green Wave improved to 9-0 overall while the 37th-ranked Lady Rebels fell to 4-3, losing at home for the first time this season and for only the fourth time in the last 31 matches.
Tulane began by taking two of three doubles matches for one team point. The Lady Rebel duo of Gyorgyi Zsiros and Claire Smith got their school's only win of the day by defeating Maria Ivanov and Jenny Kuhn 8-5 at the second position.
In singles, Green Wave players won in straight sets at all six spots.
The Lady Rebels will not appear in the final of their own tournament for the first time and instead will face Washington State in the third-place match beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday.
"Tulane has the potential to be a top-10 team and they played extremely well today," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "We look forward to facing a tough Washington State team on Sunday and getting back on track."
In the title match, schedule for noon, Tulane will face No. 14 Fresno State after the Bulldogs advanced by defeating WSU 5-2.
Also Sunday, Oklahoma State will take on Kansas for fifth place and Boston College will face Northern Arizona for seventh.
