Lady Rebel Lauded

LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior Gyorgyi Zsiros has become her team's first Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week in 2004, the league announced Wednesday.

Zsiros, a native of Budapest, Hungary, had a perfect weekend, going a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles to help the Lady Rebels go 3-0.

Playing at the top singles position, she got by Dita Hauerlandova 6-1, 6-3 to help her team knock off league-rival San Diego State on Thursday. The next day Zsiros needed a super-tiebreaker to upend Patricia Chien of Wyoming 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-2). On Saturday, she defeated Dasha Zhurin of Colorado State 6-3, 6-4 to raise her all-time record vs. MWC opponents to a sparkling 19-4.

Along with partner Claire Smith, Zsiros also went 3-0 in doubles play at the No. 2 spot to improve to 14-5 this spring.

The Lady Rebels (14-5/4-1) close out their regular season schedule this weekend in Colorado Springs by taking on New Mexico and Air Force.
