Dandy Duo Honored By MWC

Oct. 10, 2005

LAS VEGAS - A pair of impressive UNLV football sophomores -- place-kicker Sergio Aguayo and linebacker Beau Bell - earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors, the league announced Monday.

Aguayo, a native of San Jacinto, Calif., kicked two career-long 52-yard field goals - one to tie the game and one to win it with nine seconds remaining - in UNLV's 13-10 victory over San Diego State on Saturday. It was the second game-winning kick for Aguayo, who also hit a 41-yarder as time expired in the victory over Idaho, an effort for which he also won player of the week on Sept. 12.

Bell turned in a career-high 14 tackles vs. the Aztecs, which included 3.5 quarterback sacks, and one pass breakup to earn the defensive nod. The native of Tustin, Calif., and younger brother of former Rebel LB Zach Bell, helped force San Diego State into a 0-15 performance on third-down conversion attempts and limit it offense to just 140 total yards.

This marked the first time UNLV players earned multiple weekly league awards since DB Joe Miklos and PK Dillon Pieffer on Nov. 3, 2003.

Also, BYU QB John Beck took home this week's MWC offensive honor after leading his team to a come-from-behind victory over New Mexico.
