Kurokawa Cracks Top 10 Again

REDMOND, Wash - Led by yet another top-10 finish by Elena Kurokawa, who tied for fifth for her seventh top-10 finish in her last eight tournaments, the UNLV women's golf team came in fourth at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational held at the Sahalee Country Club.

Kurokawa birdied the last two holes to card a one-over 73 during Wednesday's final round, and the senior had a 54-hole score of 223 (+7) that earned her the seventh top-5 finish of her UNLV career. Kurokawa started this year with a fifth-place finish at the Dick McGuire Invitational.

Pepperdine won the tournament with a final score of 891 (+27), finishing a stroke ahead of Arizona State, which carded a three-round score of 892 (+28). USC finished third with a score of 909 (+45), followed by UNLV (915, +51) and then Arizona 918 (+54). Jennifer Osborn of ASU took home medalist honors with a total of 215 (-1). She was the only player to finish the tournament below par.

Da Sol Chung, who started the day in second place, finished in a tie for seventh place with a total of 224 (+7). It was the highest finish for the freshman. Another newcomer, Grace Woo, finished tied for 15th with a score of 228 (+12). Both freshmen have played well in their first two tournaments for the Rebels. Allison Chell also competed for UNLV and finished 69th (252, +36).

The Rebels were able to finish fourth despite missing Seema Sadekar, who was forced to withdraw from today's final round due to a stiff neck.

UNLV will take two weeks of before returning to the links for the Stanford Invitational, which will is Oct. 21-23 at Palo Alto, Calif. The Rebels will then close their fall season with the Las Vegas Founders Women's Collegiate Showdown, set to be played at Anthem Country Club on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
