Umezu Makes Cut, Rebels Finish 28th At NCAA Championships

UNLV made a two-spot move up the team standings with its best round of the weekend Sunday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa

CARLSBAD, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – Senior Mayumi Umezu made the cut to the final round of stroke play, while the UNLV women's golf team finished tied for 28th at the NCAA Championships Sunday at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa (Par 72, 6,330 yards).

REBEL ROUNDUP: Through 54 holes, Umezu (+4) landed in 42nd overall and seventh among players from non-advancing squads to move onto Monday's stroke play finale being aired on Golf Channel. Playing their final rounds as Rebels, senior McKenzi Hall (+10) tied for 109th and senior Hina Matsui (+25) placed 153rd after they shot a final-round 77. Sophomore Zi Yu Foong (+8), who carded a team-best 2-under 70 in the third round, tied for 100th to end her first season as a Rebel as the squad's second-highest finisher. Wrapping things up for the Scarlet & Gray, freshman Amber Chen (+27) came away with a 154th-place finish in her postseason debut.

As a team, the Rebels (+46) concluded their national championship scoring with their best round of the weekend at 299 (+11), besting their second-round score by two shots and first-round tally by 11 shots.

LEADERBOARD: Stanford extended its lead on day three with an NCAA single-round record of 18-under 270 to drop its to-par score to 23-under (841) for the tournament. Arkansas' Maria Jose Marin takes the individual lead into the fourth round at 9-under 207.

UP NEXT: Umezu will tee off in Monday's fourth round at 12:51 p.m. PT.
