Postgame Quotes UNLV vs. Utah
UNLV Head Coach Mike Sanford
On the play of his team and his team's effort:
We are very disappointed and very upset. We believed we were going to win this game until the last second and if there is anything I want to leave as a legacy of this game and the future of UNLV football is that this game shows what our attitude is going to be. We are going to be a football program that never, ever gives in and never ever gives up. The only thing that is going to happen is that time will run out on us.
I was pleased with our effort and I was pleased with our fight and competiveness. I wish we could have stopped a couple of those long plays on defense because I believed we were going to keep scoring.
On the toughness of QB Jarrod Jackson:
I thought Jarrod Jackson showed a lot of guts and determination, toughness. I thought he kept competing, kept fighting and got beat up pretty good. He just kept coming back and showed a lot of toughness and determination.
On the play of TE Greg Estandia:
He made some tremendous catches today and not many people could have gotten up in the air and made some of those catches.
On the play of WR Corey Anderson:
He did a lot of good things and that bodes well for the future of this program.
On the mental mistakes during the game:
The thing we did today is when guys made mistakes, we took them out of the game. We had several situations where we took guys out of the game and if guys weren't doing what they were supposed to, we took them out. We just have to keep correcting and making it unpleasant for people to make mistakes.
On his emotions heading into the game:
It was a very emotional game for me. I was fired up for this game. I am always fired up but I was really fired up for this game. Just seeing some of the players that I know and I recruited and I coached last year; a lot of the players came up to me after the game and gave me a hug and that was good.
