Rebels Head Towards Rocky Mountains For Two
UNLV will take a two-match winning streak east when it faces Colorado State and Wyoming this weekend in Mountain West Conference play. This past weekend, the Rebels overcame a three-match losing streak and turned things around against Air Force and New Mexico. The two victories helped even the Rebels' overall record at 11-11 and pushed its MWC mark to 7-3.
There are six regular season matches left on the Rebels' schedule. UNLV will play on the road the next two weekends. Following this weekend's journey through the Rockies, the team will play a mid-week match at San Diego State (Wed., Nov. 9) and a match in Fort Worth, Tex., versus TCU (Sat., Nov. 12). The Rebels close out their schedule with home matches with Utah and BYU. The Rebels hold a 3-3 first half record against its remaining opponents.
Last Week In Review
The Rebels improved their standing in the MWC with back-to-back wins against Air Force and New Mexico. Both wins came in sweeping fashion and brings UNLV's total of 3-0 wins in conference play to four. With the two wins against AFA and UNM, it gives the Rebels a regular season series sweep of the two squads.
In the two matches, Mariana Pencheva led all Rebels with 22 combined kills and a hitting percentage of .514. In 37 attacking attempts she registered only three errors and averaged 3.67 kills per game. Against the Falcons she threw down nine kills (8-3-16, .208), but one-upped herself with 14 against the Lobos. In the UNM match, she did not hit for an error and tied the single-highest hitting percentage by a Rebel this season with a .667 tally.
The Rebels out hit the Falcons 46-to-33 and held a better hitting percentage (.243-to-.137), as well. UNLV hit for a match-high .324 in game two, while game one's .233 was close to the match's average. The Rebels tallied double-digit kills in all three of their games and kept each game's errors in single-digits. Air Force hit for .000 in its first game and followed that up with game two's .194 and game three's .200. The Falcons hit for double-digits in games two and three and held their errors below 10 in every game.
The Rebels out hit the Lobos 44-to-38 in the kill department and .248-to-.173 in hitting. UNLV hit no worse than .200 in all three of its games, while UNM broke .200 once. Neither school hit for more than eight errors in any game, as UNM had eight errors in both games' one and two. UNLV's highest error tally was seven in game three, the first two games closed out with six errors in each.
