Rebels Extend Domination Over Aztecs

Nov. 9, 2005

Final Stats

SAN DIEGO - UNLV (13-12, 9-4 MWC) picked up its ninth win in Mountain West Conference play and fourth-straight over San Diego State (14-12, 6-7 MWC) Wednesday night in a 3-1 (30-25, 26-30, 30-28, 30-21) victory. The ninth win is significant in that it brings the Rebels within a half-game of idle Utah (9-3 MWC) for second-place in the conference standings and it marks the highest win total the squad has reached since MWC play began in 1999. The win ties the Rebels with the 2004 and 1998 squads for the program's highest conference win total on the road at four.

The Rebels out hit the Aztecs 68-to-57 in the kill department and .288-to-.188 in hitting. In games one (.410) and four (400), UNLV hit above the .400 mark, while SDSU hit no higher than .289 (game one) and was at or below .152 in its final three games. UNLV had four of its attackers record six or more kills and hit above the .348 line.

Michelle Banks and Melody Nua registered double-doubles in the match. Banks threw down 10 kills and dug out 10 Aztec attacks for her seventh double-double on the year. Nua notched her fifth double-double with 10 digs and assisting the Rebel attackers with 56 of their kills.

Maria Aladjova and Lauren Miramontes tallied 19 kills apiece. Miramontes hit for a .417 clip and held the highest hitting percentage of the three Rebels with 10+ kills. Nua dropped in six kills of her own and was tops on the team with a .455 hitting percentage.

Jada Walker made Rebel history with her 16 digs against SDSU. In her two year career at UNLV she has amassed 814 digs. Her career total surpassed the 812 set by Leiana Oswald in her four-year career (2000-03).

The Aztecs were led by 14 kills from Melanie Greene. Greene was closely followed by the 13 kills by Audra Dent and the 12 from Lindsey Noll. Leah Lathrop and Kristen Castillo split the assisting duties as they collected 27 and 21, respectively. Aime Cordeiro dug out a team-high 16 UNLV attacks.

Next up for UNLV is its final MWC road match at TCU on Sat., Nov. 12 at 2 pm PT. The Rebels will travel to Fort Worth, Texas for the first time since 1998 when the two schools were members of the Western Athletic Conference.
