Rebels Season Ends With 15-15 Mark
UNLV closed out the 2005 season with a 15-15 record. In 16-matches of Mountain West Conference play, the Rebels finished with a 10-6 mark and the fourth seed in the MWC Volleyball Championship. UNLV has now finished with winning records in MWC play in two-straight seasons (8-6 in 2004) and with 15-wins in that same timeframe.
In the 2005 MWC Volleyball Championship, UNLV reached the semifinals for the second-straight year. In the quarterfinals, the Rebels fought back from 1-0 deficit to propel themselves with a 3-1 win into the semis against the top-seed and 21st-ranked BYU. Against the Cougars, UNLV dropped games one and two to fall behind early. After the break the Rebels came out and turned their fortunes around with two-straight game wins. In the decisive fifth-game, UNLV pushed BYU to the brink of elimination, but the Cougars survived two Rebel match points to take the match and a trip to the championship.
Post-Season Awards
On Wednesday, Dec. 8, the UNLV volleyball team celebrated its 2005 season with its annual end-of-season banquet. At the banquet three awards were preseted to three deserving student-athletes.

AVCA Recognition
The American Volleyball Coaches Association named its All-Region Teams on Tuesday, Dec. 6, and Lauren Miramontes was recognized for her efforts on the court this season.
Miramontes was named honorable mention for the west region. Joining Miramontes on the "HM" list was Airial Salvo from Utah. Salvo, also received west region freshman of the year honors.
In all six MWC student-athletes were recognized, as BYU's Lauren Evans and Lindsy Hartsock were joined by Colorado State's Dre Downs and Utah's Shelly Sommerfeldt on the all-region team.
