Rebels' Recruits Ranked Among The Best

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - UNLV's golf programs both had impressive fall signings, as the men's and women's recruiting classes were ranked fourth in the country by Golfweek Magazine.

UNLV men's head coach Dwaine Knight signed four players who will join UNLV next fall. The talented quartet of players who will join the Rebels is Seung Su Han, Blake Trimble, Eddie Olson and Brett Kanda.

Su Han, a senior from Bradenton, Fla., who attends the Leadbetter Academy, is a three-time All-American and the 2002 Player of the Year. Originally from Korea, he advanced to the round of 16 at the 2004 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

Trimble, a senior at Torrey Pines High School is from Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. He was the 2002 CIF state high school champion as a freshman and was a member of the 2004 CIF team champions. He finished sixth at the 2004 Las Vegas Founders Junior Golf Championship and recorded a top-10 finish at the Rolex Tournament of Champions in Sunriver, Ore.

Olson, a senior at Aptof High School in Aptof, Calif., was the 2004 CIF state high school champion. He advanced to the second round of the 2004 California State Amateur and won the 2004 FCWT Sun Devil Junior Golf Classic at ASU's Karsten Golf Course.

Kanda, a senior from La Crescenta, Calif., finished second at the 2003 Las Vegas Founders Junior Golf Championship. He was the MVP of the Prep League in Southern California and a two-time United States Junior participant.

UNLV women's head coach Missy Ringler signed three players, Sooji Cho, Da-sol Chung and Grace Woo who will enroll and compete for UNLV next fall.

Cho is from Glendale, Calif., and is currently the 8th-ranked junior golfer in the country according to Golfweek. She had four top-six finishes on the AJGA tour this past summer, including winning the True Temper Junior Open held in Patterson, Calif.

Woo, who is from Burbank, Calif., is rated the 14th-best junior golfer by Golfweek. Woo finished in the top-five in three AJGA events during the 2004 summer. She qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships, advancing to the round of 16 before losing to the eventual champion. Woo finished in second at the California high school championships this past fall.

Chung is from Seoul, Korea, where she is currently a member of the Korean National Team. She played in one AJGA event during the summer of 2003, finishing third at the Needham Junior. Chung also competed in the 2004 Nevada Women's Open, finishing in a tie for fifth. Her three-round score of 215 (-1) was the lowest amateur score in the event.
