Open Season

LAS VEGAS - The 15th-ranked UNLV men's golf team will begin the spring season on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, which will be played at Leilehua Golf Course (par 72, 6916 yards) in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

UNLV will be joined in the field by Arizona, Auburn, BYU, Colorado State, Denver, Hawaii, Hawaii-Hilo, Long Beach State, Nevada, Reno, New Mexico, Pacific, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Southern Methodist, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UC Santa Barbara, Utah and UTEP.

Competing for the Rebels will be seniors Ryan Moore and Travis Whisman, junior Andres Gonzales, sophomore Sam Hunt and freshman Jarred Texter.

Arizona captured last year's Burns title with New Mexico's Spencer Levin taking home medalist honors. UNLV finished second last year with Moore finishing in a tie for fifth and Whisman tying for seventh.

UNLV played in four tournaments in the fall, finishing in the top three in its last three events and second in its last two.

The Burns Intercollegiate will run through Friday, Feb. 25 with 18 holes each day.
