COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV picked up one point during the second day of competition Friday and are currently sixth with nine points at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships at Cadet Field House on the campus of Air Force.
The Rebels finished eighth in the distance medley, as the relay team of Michele Suszek, Ashley Pierce-Callihan, Leta Rose and Sarah Loughlin combined to finish in a time of 14:37.53. That was the only point the Rebels scored though heading into the last day of the championships Saturday.
BYU is leading after two days with 78 points and Colorado State is close behind with 65. There is a huge drop off after the top two teams as Utah is a distant third with 26 points. San Diego State is in fifth with 25 points, New Mexico sits in fifth (15 points) Wyoming is tied with UNLV in sixth (nine points) and Air Force is in eighth with seven points.
Halima Decree, Miesha McClendon and Deanna Appuglise all advanced to the finals Saturday in their respective events. DeCree clocked the fastest time in the preliminaries of the 60 meters with a time of 7.50. The senior also qualified in the 200 meters with a time of 24.83, the seventh-fastest time in the even Saturday. McClendon finished fourth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.69. Appuglise finished eighth in the 400 with a time of 56.93.
On the men's side of the meet the same two teams lead the meet as on in the women's title chase, but they are reversed. Colorado State leads with 76.50 points and BYU is second with 50.50 points.
The conference championships conclude Saturday afternoon.
