Moore Wins MWC Golfer of the Month

March 8, 2005

LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior golfer Ryan Moore was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for February after dominating the field at the John Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawaii last month.

In his only action during the month of February, Moore won medalist honors with a 20-under-par performance. As a team, UNLV finished second, two shots behind New Mexico at 19 under.

Moore fired a three-round total of 196 (67-65-64) on the par 72, 6,742-yard course. He shot a season-low and tournament-low of 8-under 64 during the final 18 holes to win the tournament by seven shots after being tied for the lead entering the final round.

New Mexico's Spencer Levin, BYU's Greg Machtaler and San Jose State's Justin Madison all finished tied for second, seven shots behind Moore at 13 under.

Moore shot a previous season-low 7-under 65 during the second round of play at the Burns and opened the tournament with a 5-under 67. It was the first time this season he shot all three rounds of a tournament in the 60s.

The victory is the second of the year for Moore and the sixth of his career, which ties him with former UNLV golfer Warren Schutte (1989-93) for the most wins in Rebel golf history.

His 54-hole total of 196 also set the UNLV mark for low 54 holes, besting the previous mark of 198 set by Jeremy Anderson at the Burns in 2000.

The UNLV golf team will be back in action this weekend as it will host the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, March 11-13.
