Final Stats
LAS VEGAS - The Rebels (1-2) finally broke into the win column on Saturday night in their third and final game of the Fremont Investment & Loan Invitational in Northridge, Calif. UNLV blanked Arizona State (1-2) in the finale at the Matadome for both teams with scores of 30-24, 30-24, 31-29. Rebel Lauren Miramontes was the lone Rebel to make the Invitational's All-Tournament team as she tallied 47 kills in her three matches for a 4.27 kills-per-game average and a hitting percentage of .269.
For the second-consecutive match, UNLV received positive hitting percentages. Unfortunately, it took the second match of the day to pull them to victory. In the game the Sun Devils had a higher hitting percentage .210 to UNLV's .189.
UNLV was led offensively by Miramontes and Michelle Banks for the second-straight game. Miramontes picked up 16 kills to Banks' 13. Setter Melody Nua notched 41 assists against the Sun Devils and tallied a team-high .500 hitting percentage with help from four kills. For the first time in three games, Jada Walker did not lead the team in digs, but racked up 16 in the match. Banks took top honors and led the team with 19 digs for back-to-back double-doubles on Saturday.
ASU's Nicole Morton was the lone Sun Devil to put up double-figures in kills with 11. Setter Giovana Morton led ASU with 21 assists, while Rachel Mittelstaedt put up 16. Sydney Donahue had a team-high 15 digs.
Up next for UNLV is a trip back to California on Sept. 2-3 to the Holiday Inn Costa Mesa/Sunset Classic in Irvine, Calif. The Rebels will play matches against UC Irvine (Sept.2), Santa Clara (Sept.3) and Southern Miss (Sept.3).
